16-30 year olds encouraged to come and give a saliva sample on 3rd December to help find a bone marrow donor.

A little girl who attends one of Rockets Community’s partner schools is in need of a donor to help her fight an extremely rare disease.

Evie Campbell, who attends Swanfield Park Primary School in Alnwick suffers from Diamond-Blackfan anaemia, which means she cannot produce red blood cells, essential to send oxygen around the body. The steroid treatment she was receiving now no longer works and she has to have blood transfusions every 4 weeks.

She has had 21 transfusions so far despite being only five years old.

Evie’s bone marrow is failing meaning she will require a bone marrow transplant in the next 18-24 months.

It is very hard to find donors, which is why the school is holding an event on Saturday 3rd December to try and find someone who can help Evie.

Taking place at Swanfield Park Primary School, The Avenue, Alnwick NE66 1UL, from 11:00am-3:00pm on the 3rd December, 16-30 year olds are being asked to come and give a spit sample to see if they could be the one to help Evie.

“We would encourage any parents or players who are 16-30 to consider taking the time to drop into the school on Saturday.” Said Rockets Community Coach, Danny Gilroy. “It will take ten minutes but could mean a huge amount to Evie and her family. Everyone at Swanfield Park is working hard to spread the word and even sharing the Facebook event could make a difference.”

Please spread the word and come along. You could change Evie’s life forever.
