Saturday sees Cramlington Rockets 1st team take on Wallsend Eagles in its first ever Championship Grand Final.

Kicking off at 3pm at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow, we profile some of the key names for the Rockets likely to be playing on the day.

Louis Platt, 23, half back

Having graduated from Northumbria University after two years under current Newcastle Thunder coach, Jason Payne, Platt joined the Rockets this season after a year away from the game.

A livewire player, he keeps defences on their toes with his sniping runs from dummy half and provides energy and direction for the team.

With five tries this season, he was recently shortlisted for North East Player of the Year

Jack Redfern, 18, hooker

Having being with the club since a junior, Redfern has taken on more and more responsibility and has proven to be a key part of Dave Townend’s squad.

Versatile enough to play across centre, hooker or half back, its his left boot that has proven most valuable for the Rockets this year, landing an impressive 48 conversions with many from the toughest of angles.

With four tries as well this season, he was revealed to be a contender for North East Young Player of the Year earlier this month.

Ryan Hull, 16, wing

One of the brightest prospects in the North East, Hull is known for his raw pace. Having played for Newcastle Thunder U16s earlier this year, a video of him scoring a try from 80 metres against Salford Red Devils proved to be a viral sensation.

Hull completed the U16s treble just three weeks ago and made his debut for the 1st team a week later in the Super 4s against Jarrow Vikings.

He impressed enough that day to earn a start in the crucial Wallsend Eagles match a week later where he scored his first open age try, helping guide the Rockets towards the Grand Final.

Connor Lye, 21, loose forward

One of the longest serving members of the club despite only being 21, Lye has racked up almost a decade as a Rocket, joining when the club was still based in Killingworth.

Despite studying at Leeds Beckett University, Lye has been a regular in the North East representative set up over the years and proven himself to be proof that long term investment in player development and hard work can pay off.

A fiery leader within the pack with hard carries and smooth hands, he has scored 4 tries this term, his score against Jarrow Vikings in the second game of the season proving crucial as the Rockets downed the reigning champions.

The full team will be revealed on Friday.
