On the pitch fun at this year’s event.

Members of both Alnwick Bears and Cramlington Rockets are set to have a very special role at this year’s Magic Weekend.

With both clubs set to attend Rugby League’s summer party at St James’ Park, thanks to the enthusiasm of the people of Northumberland towards the event, both clubs will be getting close to the action.

The fun starts on Saturday when a number of Rockets will be walking out as mascots for the Widnes Vikings vs St Helens match before later in the day the Rockets U8s will play on the pitch at half time of the Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves game.

Then on Sunday, Alnwick Bears make their first public appearance, walking the teams out for the Salford Red Devils vs Catalan Dragons match.

“We are very excited to see the players involved” said Jeff Ball, Chairman of Cramlington Rockets and Development Officer at Alnwick Bears.

“Northumberland is becoming an increasingly important area for the growth of rugby league and now over 5,000 children regularly play at the clubs, in community groups or schools.

Therefore, to have 40 children involved so close to the action is brilliant and we really appreciate the RFL letting us be involved.

Over the four years we have had loads of kids get close to their heroes and it makes a lasting impression.

They are all really eager to get there, as are we, and I am sure they will all have a great time.”
