The Rugby Football League (RFL) has today confirmed that the second national lockdown means that grassroot team sports cannot continue in the community, only in education settings.

This means that all planned activity due to end on 28th November will now end immediately.

Our venue, Cramlington Sporting Club has also said they are to close for four weeks. This means there will be no further Rocket Tots, Open Age training, or minis and juniors training and matches until the 2021 season starts in February.

“We are very proud of everyone who has made the last two months really enjoyable” said Chair, Jeff Ball.

“Everyone worked so hard to ensure we could provide a COVID secure environment for all our members and the sense of joy and relief on that first weekend back in September will stay with me for a long time.

While it is unfortunate that all activity must cease, we must remember that we only had another four weeks and we would normally have wrapped the season up by now in a normal season anyway.”

Ball added: “Our plan remains returning for the junior 2021 preseason in February-March as normal. That is at least 13-15 weeks away so I’m sure even if the lockdown is extended beyond 2nd December, we will be in a position to start again.”

Reflecting on the implications of another national lockdown, Ball was keen for club members to support each other: “Please remember what it was like back in the spring, and how much supporting neighbours, keeping in touch with friends and exercising in whatever way you could did for us all.

We have Facebook groups that should be treated as safe places for people to reach out, either to talk, laugh or ask for help. Being a club is about much more than running out on a Saturday.”
