Early start catches the rockets dozing

The U12 had an early start for the pre-season friendly at Peterlee. With a good squad of 16 players including 6 making their Rockets debut, the future for the U12s already looks very promising.

With Peterlee depleted on numbers a 10 a side game was agreed and the Rockets kicked off against a side with lots of familiar faces from last year's U12s in the opposition. Unfortunately the early start had an adverse an effect on the Rockets with a lack lustre start being punished, a couple of missed tackles and after 5 minutes the Rockets were 12 down from 2 full length runs by the Pumas.

However, at this point the Rockets woke up and some storming runs by debutant Max Bootle and the ever reliable Adam Patterson got good field advantage which was utilised well and the Rockets finished by scoring 2 tries to reduce the arrears to 18-10 at half time.

The Rockets then started really well and continued to run strong and pressure the Pumas in defence and with 10 minutes to go the scores were level at 18 all.

From the Peterlee kick off, a couple of mistakes due to over keenness gave away a try and with the last play of the game Peterlee were again able to cross the whitewash for a 28-18 victory.

Despite the loss there was much for the Rockets to be pleased about, a great team spirit was evident and with strength in depth and a large squad, the 13 a side games hold no fear for the young squad.
