Local wealth management firm Brewin Dolphin has given away 1,000 tickets for a rugby match to local good causes.

The North East Charities Team at Brewin Dolphin has been busy contacting charities across the region in recent weeks, offering a total of 1,000 tickets to the forthcoming match between Newcastle Thunder and York City Knights on May 20th.

The match sponsored by Brewin Dolphin will take place at Kingston Park and is being dubbed ‘Magic Friday’.

With thousands of rugby league fans set to arrive on Tyneside, it is the perfect warm up to Magic Weekend, one of the biggest events in the rugby league calendar that will see all 12 Super League sides descend on Newcastle United’s St James’ Park for two days of action.

Investment manager, Jeff Ball, who is also Chairman of local rugby league, Cramlington Rockets, was thrilled with the response to the offer of 10 tickets per registered charity, meaning 100 charities are set to benefit.

“To have been able to give 1,000 people from local charities the chance to have a night at the rugby has been really exciting” said Ball.

“We work with a number of charities at Brewin Dolphin and realise just how important it is to recognise the work that they do in the community and also to give them a little something to reward those that work so hard for them throughout the year.”

“I know how much enjoyment rugby league can give all the family through my work with the Rockets and it is great that Brewin Dolphin was able to extend that to so many others.”

Charities from as far as Alnwick in the north of the region and Stockton in the south will be making their way to Kingston Park hoping to see another Newcastle Thunder victory following their win in the same fixture last year.

Ball added: “There are charities of all sizes from all over going and we let the charities decide how best to use the tickets.”

“Some are taking their volunteers and staff to say thank you, some are taking disadvantaged children who have never been to a sporting event and some have used the tickets to fundraise or as prizes.”

“With it already set to be a fun, family atmosphere, to have so many people that make a real difference to those less fortunate in one place will no doubt make it a night to remember.”
