U12s, U14s and U16s Black all set to feature.

Three junior sides from Cramlington Rockets are vying for silverware this weekend.

The Northumberland-based club has enjoyed a purple patch of success in recent years and will be hoping to extend its run across a number of competitions.

The headline event of the weekend is the U16s Black squad’s appearance in the U16s Yorkshire Challenge Cup.

The first time a team from the North East has featured in the final, the orange and black travel to The LD Nutrition Stadium, home of Betfred Championship side, Featherstone Rovers.

With a series of finals taking place on the day, they kick off at 12pm and take on Skirlaugh Bulls from Hull who also play int eh Yorkshire U16s Premier Division.

Then on Sunday, the focus returns to the North East and Kingston park stadium the home of Newcastle Thunder.

The highlight of the calendar, Junior Grand Finals Day sees three finals take place as well as an U8s, U9s & U10s festival and the Betfred League 1 match between Newcastle Thunder and Hemel Stags.

The Rockets feature in the day’s first final as they take on Gateshead Storm in the North East Cup at 11am.

Having spent the season playing friendlies, the U12s Cup competition has been the first competitive rugby league for the U12s age group.

The Rockets team is made up of U11s new to competitive action and U12s who lifted the cup last season, meaning there is a good mix of experience and enthusiasm.

The Rockets are also set to feature in game 2, the U14s Grand Final at 12pm, also against Gateshead Storm.

With Storm and the Rockets finishing first and second in the regular season table, both sides came through the play-offs to set up a re-run of the North East Cup final earlier this month, which saw Storm victorious.

The Rockets will be hoping to reverse the result this time around.

The final junior match of the day will see Yarm Wolves take on Catterick Crusaders in the U16s Grand Final with Catterick also looking to reverse the outcome of the earlier Cup Final against the same side.

“This weekend is another big occasion for the club” said Chairman, Jeff Ball. “Everyone has worked really hard through the year so it’s a nice reward to see so many involved.

The North East Finals days keep getting bigger and bigger and it is fantastic to see so many out supporting all the teams.

I am sure this weekend will be no different and whatever the results, I am sure everyone will have a great time.”

There is a supporters’ coach travelling to Featherstone on Saturday, with limited places still available. On Sunday, entry is through the Tap & Tackle and £3 for adults and £1 for kids. Players are free.
