Ex-Rocket to feature in North squad inaugural event.

Lewis Davey has been named in the North Squad for the first-ever University Rugby League Origin match, taking place at Loughborough University at 1pm this Sunday 7th February.

The match will see 20 players from the North (North West, North East and Yorkshire) and the South (South East, South West and Midlands) battle for the inaugural Origin title.

The game is set to play a major role in deciding the make-up of the England Universities squad as University Rugby League's top performers look to earn international recognition ahead of this year's Associations Cup and Four Nations.

Davey is joined in the squad by several other North East names, including Sam Luckley, Patrick Hargreaves and Aaron Levy.

Speaking to the RFL website, England Universities Assistant Coach Dean Reacher, who will vie against Baker as part of the North’s management team added: "The thought of having to pick an England squad from this crop of players is mouthwatering.

"A lot of pride will be on show and, knowing the players, nobody will want to take a backward step.”

As part of the Origin match experience, both the North and South teams have been tasked to bring the most amounts of fans to the game as part of January’s Ambassadors Challenge.

Each group of supporters from each university that are attending the game, should tweet a picture of the group to @UniversityRL from their Rugby League team’s Twitter account.

Fans should attend the game in their team’s colours (blue for the North and maroon for the South) and each team will receive a point for each supporter in the correct colour plus bonus points for each banner and painted face.
