Superb night of celebration for the whole region.

Four of Cramlington Rockets' finest have enjoyed success at this year's North East Rugby League Awards.

In an exciting night organised by Newcastle Thunder and hosted by TV presenter, Andy Sixsmith, 220 people from across the North East's clubs crammed into Kingston Park to recognise the many achievements of the year.

With 21 nominations across the 13 categories, the Rockets were hopeful of a successful evening.

The first award of the night was always going to be a Rockets victory as all three nominees were from the club.

The lucky recipient in the end was Lewis Davey, selected as Junior Match Official of the Year as refereeing has become one of many ways Davey is involved with the game.

The club's second award was Spirit of the Community, which was won by Steven Beaty, a fitting reward for his work developing Rockets Community in recent years.

After the break for dinner, it was Mark Roberts who lifted U14 Championship Player of the Year to loud acclaim from his teammates.

Harry Cable then lifted U16 Championship Player of the Year, an award shared joint with Tyler Walton from Wallsend Eagles.

The evening featured many inspiring stories and speeches from across those who are crucial for the North East game and from Newcastle Thunder alike.

In his introduction to the evening, the RFL's James Shuttleworth spoke at length at the quality and scope that now exists in the region and how exciting the future looks.

The likes of Jarrow Vikings, who won the NE Premier Division, and Catterick Crusaders who have been transformed in recent years both walked away with multiple awards, with nominations and prizes also falling across numerous other clubs too.

"We are so pleased for all our winners"said Jeff Ball, Rockets Chairman.

"We always say the club is all about our members, the Rockets Family and it is great to see so many of them receive recognition through being nominated or talking home a trophy.

"Thank you to everyone that came along and made it a brilliant night. It proves there are a lot of good clubs and people in the North East and these awards are a fitting way to recognise them all."
