Rockets Community host 432 children.

A Northumberland-based Rugby League club has hosted the biggest ever tag rugby league festival the county has ever seen.

Cramlington Rockets, through its award-winning community arm, Rockets Community welcomed 432 children from twenty three schools to Burnside Primary school for a free festival that was enjoyed by all.

“We wanted to do something to say thank you to the local children we get to work with every week” said Community manager, Steven Beaty.

“We spend a lot of time in the local schools and it is a pleasure to work with all of them.

The enthusiasm for sport in general and especially rugby league is so impressive and easily the best in the country!”

With children coming from all across South Northumberland, Beaty was keen to credit the Cramlington School Sports Partnership in their part of the success Rockets Community has enjoyed since launching in 2014.

"I am ecstatic with how today has gone. Thanks to the Cramlington School Sports Partnership (SSP), we are in an extremely privileged position where we can host events like this one for free."

"It is thanks to Gill Marsden from the Cramlington SSP we can run events such as this one.

The opportunities they provide children in Northumberland are truly amazing and we are very grateful to be a part of it.”

Beaty added: “Today was easily one of the best days of my career.

To see so many excited faces stream across the pitches for the afternoon is exactly what we are all about at the Rockets and we look forward to trying to beat this one day!”
