Club’s project to develop rugby league in Northumberland gets the green light.

Cramlington Rockets are excited to reveal they have been awarded a funding grant of £25,000 by the Aviva Community Fund.

After a lengthy social media campaign, the Rockets made it through to the finals where a panel of judges assessed the Get Northumberland Rocketing! project against a range of criteria.

Despite some tough competition from projects across the country, the Rockets were named as one of only four winners within the Health & Wellbeing category today (16th January) on the Aviva Community Fund website.

With Alnwick Bears launching in February, supported by Cramlington Rockets, the funding will create even more playing opportunities for the people of Northumberland, as well as allowing both clubs to develop projects to reach new demographic groups.

“This is massive for rugby league in Northumberland” said Rockets Chairman, Jeff Ball.

“Every year, the sport grows in the county and this funding will allow us to accelerate that growth.

There is a lot of potential in the area that is now starting to show.

In the last few months we’ve seen two Rockets selected for England Youth and two more, one from Cramlington and the other from Alnwick, sign first team terms with local professional side, Newcastle Thunder.”

Ball continued: “However this funding is not just about the top end of the game, it is about all ages getting active and using sport to make a difference.”

We are incredibly grateful to Aviva for the support, to the RFL, the England rugby team and the rugby league family for promoting our social media campaign and of course all the Rockets and their friends and family that voted for us.”
