Another successful season comes to an end.

In the aftermath of Newcastle Thunder completing a club record 98-6 win over West Wales on Sunday, the Betfred League 1 club held its end of season awards.

Recognising the efforts of those involved across the club’s U16s, U19s and first team, an impressive three of Cramlington Rockets current and former players received an award.

Having made his first team debut last month to cap another impressive season, Oliver Gowing was named U19s Coaches’ Player of the Season.

Meanwhile in the U16s, Alex Donaghy, named a Sport Newcastle Rising star earlier this year, received the U16s Players’ Player of the Season and hooker Mark Roberts, who has been involved in the England development programme this season was named Coaches’ Player of the Season.

“it’s great to see so many Rockets continue to impress as their rugby league journey continues” said Chairman, Jeff Ball.

“It was a great day overall for us and the North East, both in the fact several of our players were recognised but also in that Thunder were able to name 12 local or Academy players in their match day squad and get a record win.

The future is bright for the North East and we are already looking forward to the 2019 season.”

Amongst the other winners Harry Aldous picked up both Players’ Player and Coaches’ Player of the Season, while brother Jack was named Forward of the season.

Mo Agoro was named Back of the Season, and Conor Fitzsimmons Young Player of the Season in the other first team awards.

Amongst the academy, Kieran Hudson was U19s Coaches’ Player of the Season, Rory Nettleson Players’ Player and Tyler Walton most improved.

And recognising the next group of players to come through the ranks, the U15s, Jake Anderson was Players’ Player of the Season and Tyler Hepple was Coaches’ Player of the Season.

Newcastle Thunder also revealed that their average attendance was 1,022 for the season, capping a successful year of development.
