Success at the RFL Community Awards held at Old Trafford stadium.

Cramlington Rockets have been crowned 2017 National Community Club of the Year.

At a glamorous ceremony held within Old Trafford stadium before the Super League Grand Final, the Rockets travelled to Manchester hopeful of going one better than last year, when they were runners up.

With competition from North West clubs, Hindley ARLFC and Saddleworth Rangers, the RFL's Dave Raybould revealed it was the North East club that took the sport's highest honour.

The win was compensation for U16s Coach Jordan Robinson missing out on Children's Coach of the Year despite a tremendous season that rightly saw him listed amongst the best in the country.

Joined by Steve Beaty senior and junior in the stage, Chairman Jeff Ball thanked the RFL and highlighted the effort of everyone at the club and across the North East.

"This means a lot to a lot of people back home" said Ball.

"Rugby league is a fantastic product and we're so proud to be a part of it. There's a lot of amazing work taking place in the North East.

Whatever it is, be it Magic Weekend, be it the World Cup, keep coming back to us. There is a lot more to come. So keep your eye on us."
