2021 NERL Awards – shortlist announced

2021 NERL Awards – shortlist announced

Jeff Ball26 Aug 2021 - 15:21

Seven Rockets in the running for Kingston Park event.

The shortlist for the 2021 North East Rugby League Awards has been revealed.

The awards dinner will take place from 19:00-22:00 on Friday 24th September at Kingston Park stadium and see all parts of the local community game recognised.

Categories include coaches for both youth ages and adults, player awards, volunteer categories and the more. The night will also reveal this year’s inductee into the NERL Hall of Fame.

Cramlington Rockets have seven members in the running for awards. Minis Team Manager, Sarah Maddison has been shortlisted for Primary Rules Volunteer of the Year having managed three age groups this season and supported the club’s adoption of coronavirus protocols.

Amongst the Players Awards, Ollie Jones is shortlisted in the U12s category having impressed since joining the club, Finlay Lawless makes the list after another strong season, this time in the U14s, and James Snowden is in the top three U16s in the region after a season that has also seen him selected for the Newcastle Thunder Academy.

Two Rockets feature in the adult categories too, with Tom Shortell and Danny Glover shortlisted for Men’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year for their efforts that saw the Rockets first team lift their first piece of silverware in the North East Cup and also reach the league’s Grand Final, two achievements that see Jordon Robinson also nominated in the Men’s Coach of the Year category.

All nominees will be contacted directly and invited to attend the evening on the Cramlington Rockets tables.

“We’re absolutely delighted to see so many nominated this year” said Chairman, Jeff Ball. “Each one of them is a credit to the club and they have put a lot of effort in this year to make it another successful season for us.

What is heartening is that there are so many other volunteers and players that could have featured but it shows the quality of the North East game across the whole region that so many other clubs also feature. We’re very proud of them all and thankful to everyone who has played their part this season, especially after a tough 18 months and I’m sure it will be a great night.”
