
An amazing 21 of Cramlington Rockets’ members have been shortlisted for the North East Rugby League Awards.
Leading the nominations is club captain, Michael Mitchell who has been shortlisted for Player of the Year following an excellent season leading the Rockets 1st team to an admirable third in this season’s regular season.
Joining him on the list for Young Player of the Year is teammate Joe Morris who put in a strong of impressive try scoring displays for the orange and black.
From the club’s junior section, U16s Coach, Danny Gilroy has been named as a nominee for Junior Coach of the Year after leading the club’s U16s A to an impressive treble this season in what was the final season of junior rugby for many of the team.
Meanwhile, three of the club’s in-house referees known for their consistent and professional displays have been shortlisted for Junior Match Official of the year with Lewis Davey and Nicky Beaty going head to head for the honour with Debra Senior, the current North East School's Match Official of the Year
Off the field, U14s Team Manager Stephen Lamb has been nominated for Volunteer of the Year having successfully organised a player pool of over 50 across the club’s two U14s teams.
Additionally, in the category of Spirit of the Community, the Rockets’ community manager, Steve Beaty, who has masterminded the impressive growth of Rockets Community in the last two years, is joined by Rockets U14 Adam Snowden, who has been volunteering with Rocket Tots despite a serious season-ending injury.
In finally, in addition to all that, twelve of Cramlington Rockets' junior players have also been shortlisted, selected from the region's U12, U14 and U16 leagues.
"Those selected are what Cramlington Rockets are all about” said Rockets Chairman, Jeff Ball.
“We are incredibly proud of what they have all achieved this season and to be shortlisted is a huge honour in itself. The judges no doubt had a hard job finalising their list as there are countless individuals across the region who give so much to North East Rugby League. We wish all the nominees the best of luck.”
