One of Cramlington Rockets’ ex-juniors had enjoyed a successful season with Kingston Press Championship side, Keighley Cougars.
Combining his studies at Leeds Trinity University, Lewis Davey spent the season turning out for the Yorkshire side’s reserves squad after a year on the books of Newcastle Thunder’s academy.
Patrolling the touchlines as a lively winger, it was an impressive season for Davey that saw him winning both Reserve Team Player and Players’ Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards.
Davey, who many will know from his time coaching with Cramlington Rockets’ Rocket Tots has also won an award for his efforts as a match official, picking up North East Match Official of the Year at the 2016 North East Rugby League Awards.
He was also selected for England Student Lionhearts for their tour of Hungary in the summer alongside fellow ex-Rocket, Martyn Steele.
With pre-season at Keighley now underway, Head Coach, Craig Lingard has handed Davey the number 30 shirt and challenged him to earn a first team contract in February.
“We are delighted to hear Lewis is progressing once again” said Cramlington Rockets Chairman, Jeff Ball.
“Lewis is only 19 but has already proven what hard work and a good attitude can achieve. Considering he joined the Rockets aged eight, there are a lot of people who have watched him grow up and are fully behind him to realise his ambitions.”
