First Ever Alnwick Rockets Camp Surpasses All Expectations

Jeff Ball28 Oct 2015 - 09:08

Double the expected number attended the camp at Longhoughton School.

The first ever Rockets Camp in Alnwick took place this week and was a huge success.

With estimates of 20 children to attend this introductory event, an amazing 47 turned out for two days of multi-sport fun and games.

Rockets Camps ran by Rockets Community, part of the North East’s largest rugby league club, Cramlington Rockets, have become a firm favourite with local children since the team launched a year ago.

From 30 in the first camp of the year in January, a North East record was set when 86 children attended in the summer.

Due to this and the fact the team now works with 22 schools in Northumberland, they won the RFL Outstanding Contribution to Schools Rugby League award in August.

With camps still running at home base, Cramlington Sporting Club, Community Manager, Steven Beaty was excited to take the Rockets Camps so far north: “We have been working in schools in Alnwick for a few months now and the enthusiasm from the kids we work with has really blown us away.

Fun is at the heart of everything we do, as well as helping kids keep healthy, make new friends and learn some new sports, be it rugby league or one of the other sports we do on camp.

With the record numbers we were seeing at our Cramlington camps, we felt that it was time to give as many children as possible the chance to join the Rockets Family.”

Rockets Community work with a number of schools and community groups across Northumberland and are always happy to discuss new partnerships.
