Club up for two RFL national Community Awards

A delegation from Cramlington Rockets will be travelling to Old Trafford in Manchester for this Saturday's RFL Community Awards.

The awards take place in the Manchester Suite in the stadium ahead of the Super League Grand Final, this year between Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos.

Recognising the best in the country, the Rockets find themselves shortlisted for Club of the Year for the second year in a row.

Having missed out to Siddal last year, the competition this time is Saddleworth Rangers and Hindley, both heartland teams.

Adding to the Rockets contingent will be U16s coach, Jordan Robinson who has been shortlisted for Children's Coach of the Year.

The Rockets have continued to develop in 2017, notable highlights including the unbeaten domestic season of the U16s that secured all three trophies available, and the 1st team reaching its first ever Grand Final.

The club's community work continues to be viewed as one of the best in the country; the Education Network Cup that saw 1,000 children take part, the first ever tournament in Alnwick and reaching 5,000 children in 48 hours on our Super League trophy tour were also high points for the year.

It is through Magic Weekend that many fans around the country have been introduced to the Rockets and 2017 was the biggest year yet for the Northumberland club, selling over 700 tickets, further adding to the excellent reputation that both the Rockets and North East Rugby League enjoy.

"This is a huge honour and we are incredibly grateful to be shortlisted once again" said club Chairman, Jeff Ball.

To be the first club outside the heartlands to be shortlisted last year was very special, and to be the first club shortlisted twice is a huge credit to all our members.

We are fortunate to have a lot of passionate people working in many fronts and for all the headlines we have enjoyed, it is the day to day efforts from every single person that make us such a special place to be.

To be shortlisted is something everyone should enjoy and hopefully we can go one better than last year and bring the trophy back to the North East."

The award ceremony takes place in the Captain's Lounge of Old Trafford ahead of the Super League Grand Final on 7th October.

A delegation of club representatives will enjoy a three course dinner before the award ceremony recognises the efforts of the whole sport across a number of categories.

Once complete, all attendees will take their seats as VIP guests and enjoy the Grand Final.

Follow the results on the day via the RFL social media accounts.
