U19s appearance versus England Lionhearts

Cramlington Rockets have seen another junior achieve international honours, with Fergus Simpson pulling on the blue of Scotland U19s last Saturday.

Taking on England Lionhearts at Twist Lane, the home of Leigh Miners Rangers, young half back, Simpson started from the bench in what was an entertaining match between the two classic rivals.

The call up is the latest achievement for a Rocket who has enjoyed a successful year both with his team and personally.

With his club side, he secured the domestic treble and beat the reigning French Champions in Perpignan to lift the Jean Galia Cup.

A successful season with the Newcastle Thunder Academy cumulated in him being named U16s Coaches Player of the Year before getting the chance to run out for Super League Academy, Huddersfield Giants.

“We are incredibly proud to see Fergus gain international recognition” said Rockets Coach, Jordan Robinson.

“He’s a hardworking, ambitious young man with a good support next work.

He has impressed the coaches this year and has plenty more to offer as he continues his development.”

It took Scotland a while to get going with England racing into a 24-0 lead before two Scottish tries and a conversion took the score to 24-10 at the break.

The rain came down and made ball movement difficult in the opening stages of the second half. England struck first before Scotland thought they had pulled one back but the try was struck off for a knock on.

A final score for the home side meant the final score was 36-10 to England.
