Solid team performance secures 2nd Place in the league

On a fine sunny day, the U12s welcomed the new team in the League Consett Steelers, to the CLV for the 2nd match against them this season. Despite a few absentees with holidays and the injuries picked up in recent weeks, the Rockets were able to put out a full team and bench. Consett travelled with 12 and the Rockets offered a player to the opposition to make it a full sided game. To the great credit of the Rockets squad, when asked for volunteers a number of hands shot up to help the steelers out.
So the game commenced in the hot sun and from the outset the Rockets were at it. In the first minute a fast return from the kick off was moved up field, a couple of tackles and then Michael Woods crossed for the first score, with Adam Pattinson slotting the conversion for 6-0. Consett worked hard to stop the Rockets constant hard runs, with half backs. Nathan Clemmitt and Alex Donnaghy standing out, with the ever reliable Adam Pattinson causing numerous problems the scores continued to come regularly with Alex Donnaghy (2) Adam Pattinson (2) and Ewan Goodridge (2) crossing the whitewash in a strong 1st half performance with 3 further conversions making the half time score 36-0.
The 2nd half started a bit slow for the rockets and some indiscipline around the PTB resulted in a couple of cheap penalties allowed Consett a prolonged period of pressure and they worked their way up the pitch, with their loos forward Harris a real threat, and much to their credit Consett were able to cross the white wash with Harris scoring from close range and Roland's scoring the conversion to make it 36-6 early in the second half.
As the heat started to take its toll, the Rockets made regular interchanges and a tiring Consett allowed the Rockets to score a number of tries Max Bootles strong running leading to 2 tries, Danny glover picking up one and Adam and Alex finishing the try scoring to complete a 64- 6 victory.
Great credit goes to Consett who never gave up and gave a great show of the progress they have made this year, a few extra players to allow interchanges would have resulted in a closer score line.
With Durham beating Peterlee in the other game it secures 2nd place in the league for the Rockets with one game, against Peterlee remaining. Man of the match for the rockets was Nathan Clemmitt at scrum half, who tackled everything and linked well with the rest of the team
